Now accepting ne students for our next 3-5 year old classes the Kickers starting in August. Cannon Kickers program is a fun and safe karate based program that is adjusted and designed just for children ages 3-5. Your child will develop better coordination, balance, listening skills, safety skills, and cooperation through games and drills. In addition to those great benefits through our values program we will help your child understand Discipline, Loyalty, Integrity, and Respect. Jul 8    Little Gather
Introduce little ones to the Museum through FREE storytelling, puppet shows, music, and lots of fun!  
In this theatrical presentation, Guinness World Record holder Larry Moss will use balloons to construct a Rube-Goldberg style mouse-trap, using volunteers to aid in the construction.  Younger students will learn how simple machines work while older groups are presented with more information regarding the forces in nature that affect the way machines work. 
Collection Connection: Can you find glass that looks similar to balloons in the collection?  It can be twisty and curvy, too!
The Southeast Steuben County Library will be on site for each Little Gather Family session at 11 am, offering selected pieces from their collection centered around the Little Gather theme of the week. Bring your local library card to check out these items and further enhance your Little Gather experience at home.

Introduce little ones to the Museum through FREE storytelling, puppet shows, music, and lots of fun!  

 

Singer-songwriter Doc Possum has a special acoustic show just for us, including old favorites like Paperweight Pals and new songs about glass! Doc Possum performs at family events throughout the region and has been performing at the Museum since 2004.

 

Doc writes about the story of glass and often incorporates objects from the Museum's collection into his song lyrics. His song, Look Inside, based on the Museum's toddler book, Paperweight Pals, was a big hit at last year's Little Gather and is great for both kids and parents to get up and dance around to!

 

Collection Connection: Stay after the performance and explore gallery objects. Can you find the Paperweight Pals in the collection?

Jul 21    U.S. Department of Labor New Proposed Fiduciary Regulations
Hear about the proposed changes to retirement plans, and how they can affect you and your organization.

If you are involved with the administration of a 401 (k), this education series is for you. Whether you are in HR, management, or a board member you may be impacted by this pending Department of Labor regulation.  With the potential of being one of the most sweeping pieces of DOL regulation in the last three decades- make sure you are prepared. Raymond McCabe and Michael Sciotti are both partners at Barclay Damon LLP who specialize in Labor & Employment law. They will walk us through the underlying regulations, litigation issues, and potential damages faced for violation.

Dressed in full regalia, with flute, song, dance, story, and sign language, Robin Pease of Kulture Kids performs the story of a Hidatsa Native American woman who was given a special blue glass beaded belt...and then lost it.
 
Audiences participate in the telling of this story, which uncovers the important role of glass beads and other items as trade goods between Native Americans and early-American explorers. This customized performance is presented through a special arrangement with Young Audiences of Rochester by Kulture Kids’ Robin Pease, an Ohio-based Native American storyteller of Mohawk descent.
 
Collection Connection: Look for beads and blue glass in the collection.
