May 17 - Jan 4    René Lalique: Enchanted by Glass

This major exhibition will bring together glass, jewelry, production molds, and design drawings by René Lalique (French, 1860-1945), dating from about 1893 to Lalique’s death in 1945. As a successful jeweler Lalique experimented with glass in his designs, which eventually led to a career in which he fully embraced the material. His aesthetic choices in his designs informed the styles of Art Nouveau and Art Deco in France, and the objects he created have become iconic reflections of these periods. Lalique also embraced industrial innovations, like mass production, allowing luxury glass to be placed in more and more households around the world. May 17 - Jan 4    Designing for a New Century: Works on Paper by Lalique and his Contemporaries

In the late 19th century and early 20th century, René Lalique’s jewelry, and then his beautifully designed glass objects and vessels, made him an influential figure in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements. His work was acclaimed at the international industrial expositions, particularly the 1900 and 1925 Paris Expositions. Designing for a New Century: Works on Paper by Lalique and His Contemporaries surveys the extraordinary glass art created by Lalique and his European contemporaries, including Marinot, Herbst, Gallé, and Val St. Lambert, through design drawings, trade catalogs, period photographs, and rare books from the Rakow Library’s special collections. For more information, call (800) 732-6845 or (607) 937-5371, or visit www.cmog.org.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Gentiva Home Health’s Corning Office Launches Food Drive

To Benefit the Food Bank of the Southern Tier

Corning, NY August 2014 — Staff members from the Gentiva Home Health office here will be blanketing Steuben and Chemung Counties throughout August, distributing food collection bags and gathering donations for the Food Bank of the Southern Tier as part of the company’s 10th Annual Food Drive.

As part of the Gentiva Health Services family of home health and hospice providers, employees at the Gentiva Home Health Corning office and their fellow employees around the country are placing the food collection bags at various healthcare facilities in their respective communities and will collect their “harvest” during the entire month of August. They are focused on beating last year’s tally, when the company’s 9th Annual Food Drive yielded more than 377,000 pounds of goods for donation to charitable organizations across the country.

“As active members of the community, we know that food banks, pantries and other charitable organizations continue to face increasing demands due to our troubling economy,” said Kathy Grottenthaler, Executive Branch Director. “We look forward to working with many area health organizations, and we encourage local healthcare providers to contact us for more information on how they and their employees can participate in this community effort.”

Gentiva Home Health provides skilled nursing, physical, occupational and speech therapies, home health aide, dietary and MSW services to residents of Chemung and Steuben Counties.   Its Corning office is owned and operated by Gentiva Health Services, Inc., one of the nation’s leading providers of comprehensive home health and hospice services. While its Corning office is staffed by area professionals familiar with the health needs of community residents, Gentiva’s national scope allows it to bring substantial resources to its local offices that other companies often cannot provide.

Area residents, physicians and referral sources who want to learn more about Gentiva Home Health’s superior services should contact the office directly @ 607-962-0102.

Aug 6    Centennial Tree Dedication

Your're invited to join us ...
Centennial Celebration Tree Dedication
Denison Park, Corning, NY
Wednesday, August 6th
4:00pm
Reception to follow

In Celebration of our 100 year anniversary, the Corning Area Chamber of Commerce will be planting a tree on the island in Denison Park near the Rotary gazebo.
Trees take many years of growth to reach their version of "adulthood," and are a symbol of longevity, tranquility, and life itself. Trees can provide comfort through the shade they produce, provide shelter for birds and small animals, and add much to the appearance of the landscape. This "green gift" is the Chamber's way of saying thank you to a community that has supported it for 100 years.

The dedication ceremony will take place on August 6th at 4:00pm at the site. All are welcome to join us for this event!
