DESCRIPTION:Corning Community College's Workforce Development & Community Education is offering a non-credit course in ServSafe\, a nationally recognized training and certification opportunity designed specifically for businesses involved in food preparation on Wednesday\, October 19 and Thursday\, October 20\, 2011\, 9 a.m.   3 p.m. at the Business Development Center\, 24 Denison Parkway West\, Corning\, NY. Deadline for registration is Friday\, October 14.\n\n\n\nEmployees learn to properly receive\, prepare\, hold\, and serve food following strict sanitation guidelines and best practices. This program prepares participants to pass the national certification exam\, which is included in the two-day course schedule.\n\n\n\nEach year in the United States there are an estimated 76 million cases of food-borne illness that result in an estimated 5\,200 deaths. About 95 percent of all food-borne illnesses are caused by the mishandling of food. Many food-handling practices that cause illness are related to poor temperature control or poor sanitation.\n\n\n\nServSafe is a proactive approach to protect yourself and your customers against food-borne illness by addressing potential hazards in the areas of storage\, preparation\, cleaning and sanitizing\, cooking\, and personal hygiene. This nationally-respected training program helps reduce the risks and potential liabilities that food services face every day. Some insurance companies even offer premium incentives for ServSafe certification.
