Incantation: Works on Paper and Mixed Media Sculpture by Gigi Alvaré
171 Cedar Arts Center is pleased to announce the opening of Incantation: Works on Paper and Mixed Media Sculpture by Gigi Alvaré on Friday, September 12, 2014 from 5:30 to 7:30pm at the Houghton Gallery located at 155 Cedar Street, Corning, NY. Alvaré's work evokes the phenomenon of movement as expressed in human experience, the body, memory and emotion using a fusion of ink and pastels on paper. The series of post-modern invocation - more revelation that narrative, more rhizomatic than linear, moving from subconscious to conscious, unformed to formed, abstract to concrete. Alvaré is a visual artist, performer and writer. Her artwork has been exhibited throughout New York State. She has created large visual elements for the Statue of Liberty Centennial Celebration and the Village Halloween Parade, New York City. Through the Touchtone Center for Children, she has written and performed numerous plays. Currently the Director of Education at the Rockwell Museum in Corning, NY, Alvaré has worked extensively in arts-in-education school programs, both in New York City and the Hudson River Valley since 1984.
